Dragon - internal system error which will prevent you from saving your user profile

"There was a internal system error which will prevent you from saving your user profile. You may be able to continue dictating, but you will not be able to save." message when using Dragon NaturallySpeaking

Problem:

When using Dragon NaturallySpeaking in Microsoft Word, the following message may appear:

"There was a internal system error which will prevent you from saving your user profile. You may be able to continue dictating, but you will not be able to save."

 

Cause:

This behavior occurs due to the McAfee software running and preventing Dragon NaturallySpeaking from saving the Dragon User Profile.

 

Solution:

In order to resolve the issue, the McAfee software will either need to be disabled, or the following Dragon NaturallySpeaking folder locations will need to be added to McAfee's exception list:

  • C:\Program Files\Nuance [For 32-bit workstations]
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance [For 64-bit workstations]
  • C:\ProgramData\Nuance
  • C:\Users\<USER_NAME\AppData\Roaming\Nuance

Note: Please contact McAfee for assistance on adding items to the McAfee exception list.
